How to Add the AI Cooking Assistant to Your Recipes

The AI Cooking Assistant adds an Ask about this recipe button to every recipe card. Readers click it and ask about substitutions, scaling, conversions or timing, and get an answer from the recipe they are reading, without leaving the page.

The chat is powered by Yamidoo, an AI chat made by WPZOOM, the team behind Recipe Card Blocks. Yamidoo has a free plan, so you can set everything up without a credit card.

Requirements: Recipe Card Blocks 3.6.0 or newer, or Recipe Card Blocks PRO 7.3.0 or newer.

Step 1: Install and activate Yamidoo

1. Go to Recipe Cards → Settings → AI Assistant.

2. Click Install & activate.

Recipe Card Blocks installs the free Yamidoo plugin from WordPress.org, activates it and switches on the Show “Ask about this recipe” option for you. The page reloads when it is done.

If your host does not allow installing plugins from the dashboard, install Yamidoo from Plugins → Add New (search for “Yamidoo”) or download it from WordPress.org. The button on your recipe cards is switched on as soon as Yamidoo is activated.

Step 2: Connect Yamidoo

1. On the AI Assistant tab, click Connect Yamidoo. You can also go to Settings → Yamidoo.

2. Click Connect and follow the steps. This creates your free Yamidoo account and connects your site.

Yamidoo then learns your recipes and posts, so it can also suggest your other recipes to readers. This takes about a minute. When it is done, the AI Assistant tab shows Connected.

Step 3: Try it on a recipe

Open any post with a recipe card. The Ask about this recipe button appears just above the ingredients.

Clicking it opens the chat with the recipe already in context. The message box is filled with “I have a question about the … recipe.”, so the reader only types the rest of the question. Try a few real questions:

  • “How would I halve this for 2 people?” Every ingredient should be listed, scaled.
  • “I don’t have honey. What can I use instead?” You should get a swap with an amount.
  • “How long does it cook?” The answer should quote your recipe.

Recommended Yamidoo settings for food blogs

In the Yamidoo dashboard, open your project and go to Settings → Behavior:

  • Set Business type to Food blog / recipes. The assistant then quotes your quantities and times exactly, gives swaps with amounts, and scales every ingredient.
  • Under Custom instructions / rules, open + Add a preset… and choose Cooking assistant.
  • Click Save settings.

The full list of recommended settings is in the Yamidoo guide for food blogs.

Turn the button off

Go to Recipe Cards → Settings → AI Assistant, uncheck Show “Ask about this recipe” and click Save Changes. The Yamidoo chat stays available in the corner of your site. To remove the chat too, deactivate the Yamidoo plugin.

Troubleshooting

The button does not show on my recipes. The button stays hidden until the Yamidoo chat has loaded, so it never shows on a site without it. Check that Yamidoo is connected on the AI Assistant tab, that Show “Ask about this recipe” is checked, and clear your caching plugin’s cache.

The one-click install fails. Some hosts do not let WordPress write to the plugins folder. Install Yamidoo from Plugins → Add New instead, as described in Step 1.

An answer is wrong or missing. Check the recipe card itself first, because the assistant answers from it. For questions your recipes do not cover, add a Q&A in the Yamidoo dashboard. See the Yamidoo guide for food blogs.
